Geneva city centre
In shortGeneva city centre is about 6 km (around 15 minutes) by road from Geneva Airport. AirportsTransfers.ch drives you there door to door in a private car with a fixed price paid online.
Geneva city centre
Business travellers, diplomats and tourists heading from Geneva Airport to the city centre often have meetings, hotel check-ins or events to reach on time. Although the distance is short, a private car with a chauffeur waiting in arrivals means no queue for taxis and no handling of luggage on public transport, with a fixed price known in advance.

The route from Geneva Airport to the city centre
Geneva Airport lies just north-west of the city, so the drive is short. Your chauffeur leaves the airport and heads into town via the main roads through the Grand-Saconnex or Meyrin area, then continues past the international district towards Cornavin station and the lakeside. Traffic can be dense during peak hours, but the journey usually takes around 15 minutes.
Arriving in Geneva city centre
You are dropped at the door of your hotel, office or residence. Many hotels are along the right bank of the lake in the Pâquis area, near the Jet d'Eau and the Mont-Blanc bridge, while the left bank is home to the banking and shopping streets around Rue du Rhône and the Old Town with St. Pierre Cathedral. Your chauffeur knows the one-way systems and pedestrian zones and chooses the most convenient stop.
Practical advice for your transfer
- Meet and greet with a name sign in arrivals makes pick-up straightforward, even with a large group.
- For business trips, the First Class Mercedes S-Class offers a calm environment for calls.
- A chauffeur by the hour (minimum 2 hours) is available for meetings across the city.
AirportsTransfers.ch tracks your flight, so if your plane lands late, waiting time is included. The fixed price per vehicle is shown before you book, and your return to the airport can be booked at the same time.

Geneva Airport to Geneva city centre by private transfer: complete guide
Geneva city centre is only about 6 km from Geneva Airport, roughly 15 minutes by car outside rush hour. A private transfer with AirportsTransfers.ch takes you door to door, from the arrivals hall to your hotel, office or apartment, at a fixed price per vehicle from CHF 123, paid online before you travel.
The route from Geneva Airport into town, step by step
Geneva Airport sits on the north-western edge of the city, so there is no motorway journey, no border and no mountain road on the way to the centre. Your chauffeur leaves the airport forecourt and, depending on your address and the traffic, drives in through Le Grand-Saconnex and the international district, passing close to the Place des Nations, then down towards Cornavin station and the right bank of the lake. For an address on the left bank (Old Town, Eaux-Vives, Champel, Carouge, Plainpalais), the car continues across one of the Rhône bridges.
The realistic driving time is around 15 minutes, but plan for more at peak times: weekday mornings and late afternoons are busy on the main roads into town, and road works or large conferences can slow things down. Our cars run on winter tyres in winter.
Free public transport ticket at Geneva Airport: how it works
Many travellers ask about it, so here are the facts. In the baggage reclaim hall, before you pass customs, a machine issues a free public transport ticket to arriving passengers. It is valid for 80 minutes on the Geneva public transport network, which is enough to take a train from the airport station to Cornavin (a short ride of a few minutes) or a bus into town. Keep your boarding pass with you, as inspectors may ask to see it with the ticket. In addition, guests staying in registered hotels and accommodation in Geneva receive the Geneva Transport Card, which gives free use of public transport in the canton for the duration of their stay.
So why book a chauffeur? The free ticket gets you to Cornavin, not to your door. With several suitcases, a pushchair or a tight schedule, the walk or tram change from the station can cost more time and effort than the short drive.
When to travel and how we plan your pick-up
Traffic peaks on weekday mornings and evenings, and during big events at Palexpo or major conferences at the United Nations. In winter, Saturdays and Sundays are busy at the airport itself, because Geneva is a gateway for many skiers heading to the Alps: expect queues at passport control and baggage reclaim on those days.
- Your chauffeur tracks your flight and adjusts to the real landing time. Waiting caused by a late flight is included in the fixed price.
- You enter your flight number and arrival time when booking; we plan the pick-up so that your chauffeur is in the arrivals hall with a name board when you come out.
- For the return trip, allow the short drive plus a margin for traffic. On a weekday morning, leave the city centre earlier than you think, and check with your airline how early you should be at the airport.
Late-night and early-morning arrivals
Our service runs 24/7. If you land late in the evening, after a delay or on the last flight of the day, public transport runs far less often or not at all, and the taxi rank can have a queue at the busiest times. A pre-booked chauffeur is already waiting, whatever the hour, and the price was fixed when you booked.
Where you are dropped: Geneva districts and hotel areas
We drive you to the exact address you give. Geneva has one-way streets, tram lanes and pedestrian areas, so your chauffeur picks the closest practical stopping point. Here is a quick overview of the main districts.
- Pâquis and the right-bank lakefront: between Cornavin station and the lake, with the Mont-Blanc bridge and views of the Jet d'Eau. Many hotels, from large lakeside addresses to smaller city hotels, plus a lively, multicultural street life and the Bains des Pâquis bathing area.
- Cornavin station area: practical for business trips and rail connections across Switzerland and to France, with numerous hotels within walking distance.
- Old Town (Vieille-Ville): on the hill of the left bank around St. Pierre Cathedral and Place du Bourg-de-Four. Narrow, steep and partly restricted streets; your chauffeur will stop as close to your accommodation as access allows.
- Rues Basses and Rue du Rhône: the shopping, banking and watch-making heart of the left bank, just below the Old Town.
- Eaux-Vives: on the left bank along the lake towards the Jardin Anglais and the Jet d'Eau, with residential streets, restaurants and hotels.
- Champel: a quiet, residential and rather upmarket district south of the Old Town, close to the University Hospitals and many clinics and practices.
- Plainpalais: the university district around the large Plaine de Plainpalais, known for its flea market on Wednesdays and Saturdays and on the first Sunday of the month.
- Carouge: a separate town just across the Arve, with low colourful houses, artisan workshops, cafés and markets. It feels like a small village within the city.
The international district: UN, WHO, ICRC and other organisations
Between the airport and the city centre lies International Geneva. The Palais des Nations (United Nations Office at Geneva) faces the Place des Nations and its Broken Chair sculpture; around it you find the World Health Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross and its museum, the International Labour Organization, the UN refugee agency, the International Telecommunication Union and many permanent missions. The World Trade Organization sits further down by the lake. Delegates often need to reach a specific entrance or visitor gate: tell us the building and the gate when booking, and your chauffeur will drop you there.
Palexpo and Cornavin
Palexpo, Geneva's exhibition and congress centre, is right next to the airport, about a ten-minute walk from the airport railway station. During trade fairs and congresses, the roads around it are busy, so a car to your hotel in town or a chauffeur by the hour shuttling between Palexpo, your hotel and meetings saves a lot of time. Cornavin is Geneva's main railway station, on the right bank; if you continue by train elsewhere in Switzerland, we can drop you there, or pick you up there for the run to the airport.
Which vehicle to choose
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mercedes E-Class | up to 3 | 3 bags | Business travellers, couples, short city stays |
| Mercedes S-Class | up to 3 | 2 bags | VIP guests, executives, diplomats, calls on the move |
| Mercedes V-Class | up to 7 | up to 10 bags | Families, small delegations, lots of luggage |
| Mercedes Sprinter | up to 16 | group luggage | Groups, teams, conference and event guests |
Child seats and boosters are available on request. Private jet passengers can be collected at the general aviation terminal (FBO) as well.
Private chauffeur vs taxi, train and car hire
- Train and bus: the cheapest option, especially with the free 80-minute ticket, and fast to Cornavin. But you still have to get from the station to your door, with your luggage, and services thin out late at night.
- Taxi: available at the rank outside arrivals, metered, so the final fare depends on traffic and time of day. At peak times there may be a queue, and a group usually needs more than one car.
- Private chauffeur: booked in advance, the price is fixed per vehicle, not per person, and known before you pay. Your chauffeur waits in arrivals with your name, helps with the bags and drives straight to your address. For a family or a group sharing one V-Class or Sprinter, the cost per person is often modest.
- Car hire: rarely worth it for a city stay. Parking in central Geneva is limited and costly, and the centre is compact and well served by trams and buses.
Business travellers
For meetings, the advantages add up: a quiet car to take calls or prepare, a quick online booking with instant confirmation, flight tracking and a chauffeur already in place if your plane is early or late. A chauffeur by the hour is ideal for a day of appointments between banks, law firms, the international organisations and Palexpo. You can book your return to the airport at the same time as your arrival.
Geneva: also the starting point for ski transfers to the Alps
Geneva Airport is a major gateway to the ski resorts of the western Alps. From the airport or from your Geneva hotel, we also drive you to Swiss resorts such as Verbier, Zermatt and Gstaad, and to French resorts such as Courchevel, Megève, Val d'Isère and Val Thorens, in a V-Class with room for skis and snowboards. Simply book each leg with its exact pick-up address.
Practical tips for your stay in Geneva
- Pick up your free public transport ticket in baggage reclaim if you plan to use trams and buses on arrival day, and ask your hotel for the Geneva Transport Card.
- The French sector of the airport serves some flights; if you arrive there, tell us when booking so your chauffeur waits on the right side.
- Strolls worth the time: the lakeside promenades, the Old Town and St. Pierre Cathedral, the Jet d'Eau, Carouge's streets and the Plainpalais flea market.
Booking checklist
