A ski holiday starts and ends with the road between Geneva Airport and the mountains. This article answers the practical questions skiers ask us about that journey: when to leave the resort for a Saturday flight, which day to travel, how winter roads are handled and whether a transfer is all you need. In short, a private transfer takes you door to door with your skis, on the day and at the time that suit you.

What time should we leave the resort for a Saturday afternoon flight?

Start from your flight's departure time and work backwards. Take the time your airline recommends for check-in and security, add the normal drive time from your resort, then add a generous margin for winter Saturday traffic and possible snowfall. Typical drive times from Geneva Airport in normal conditions are:

ResortApproximate drive time
Megèveabout 1 h 10
Chamonix, Morzineabout 1 h 15
Avoriazabout 1 h 30
Verbierabout 2 h
Méribel, Courchevelabout 2 h 10 to 2 h 15
Val Thorens, Tignes, Val d'Isèreabout 2 h 30 to 2 h 45
Zermatt (Täsch)about 3 h 15

On Saturdays, when many ski weeks change over, these times can be noticeably longer. Enter your flight number and departure time when booking and choose a pick-up time with that margin in mind. If in doubt, ask the team when you book.

Are your drivers experienced on snowy mountain roads?

Our transfers are driven by professional chauffeurs who take guests to the Alpine resorts throughout the winter season, and every vehicle is fitted with winter tyres. In heavy snowfall, the chauffeur adapts the speed and the route to the conditions, and the priority is always to arrive safely. If the weather changes your plans on the day, call or WhatsApp +41 78 346 56 77, available 24/7.

Do I need a car in the ski resort or is a transfer enough?

For many ski holidays a transfer is enough. We drive you door to door from Geneva Airport to your chalet or hotel, with skis declared at booking, and you can add the return trip in the same booking. If you want to move during your stay, you can book a transfer between two resorts or a chauffeur by the hour, from 2 hours, for a day out. Whether you need your own car beyond that depends on your accommodation and your plans in the resort.

What is the best way to get from Geneva Airport to the ski resorts?

A private transfer is the simplest option when you travel with luggage, skis or children. The car and chauffeur are reserved only for your party, with no shared rides and no stops for other passengers. Your chauffeur tracks your flight, meets you in the arrivals hall with a name board and drives you straight to the door of your accommodation. Choose the vehicle for your group:

  • Mercedes E-Class for up to 3 passengers and 3 bags.
  • Mercedes V-Class for up to 7 passengers and 10 bags, with room for skis.
  • Mercedes Sprinter for groups of up to 16 passengers.

Child seats and boosters are available on request.

Is it better to travel to the resort on Friday rather than Saturday?

If your chalet or hotel allows it, travelling on a day other than Saturday often means quieter roads, because many ski weeks start and end on Saturdays. Drive times such as Courchevel (about 2 h 15) or Val Thorens (about 2 h 30) are for normal conditions and can be longer on busy winter Saturdays. We operate 24/7, every day of the week, so you can book whichever day suits your stay.

Can you stop at a ski rental shop on the way?

Many skiers like to collect rental equipment on arrival. Because each transfer is private, a stop on the way can often be arranged, but it needs to be planned in advance. Mention the shop and its address in the booking notes, or contact the team at contact@airportstransfers.ch before your trip, so we can confirm whether the stop is possible and on what conditions. Check the shop's opening hours too, especially if you land late in the day.

Do you have 4x4 vehicles for ski resorts?

Our fleet is made up of Mercedes E-Class and S-Class sedans, the V-Class van and the Sprinter minibus, all fitted with winter tyres for Alpine roads in the ski season. If your chalet has a particularly steep or narrow access, or you have a specific need for four-wheel drive, mention it at booking or contact us at contact@airportstransfers.ch so we can confirm the right vehicle for your address.

Can you take us to the ski resort on Christmas Day?

Yes. We operate 24/7, including holidays such as Christmas Day, so your ski transfer can run on 25 December like any other day. The festive period is very busy in the Alps, so book online as early as possible, declare skis and luggage, and request child seats if needed. Your flight is tracked and the chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall with a name board. For last-minute changes, call +41 78 346 56 77.

Can we do a mid-week ski transfer to avoid the queues?

Yes. We operate every day of the week, so you can book a mid-week ski transfer whenever your accommodation allows it. Weekdays are generally quieter than winter Saturdays, when many ski weeks change over, so the drive is often closer to the normal times, such as Chamonix in about 1 h 15 or Verbier in about 2 h. Book online at least 12 hours ahead and declare your skis.

How to book

Enter Geneva Airport and your chalet or hotel in the booking form: the fixed price per vehicle, not per person, is shown instantly, before payment, and does not change with traffic or a late flight. Declare skis and request child seats, pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and receive your confirmation by e-mail. Your chauffeur meets you in the arrivals hall with a name board.

Frequently asked questions

How do I declare skis and snowboards?
Indicate the number of ski or snowboard bags in the booking form, together with your other luggage. This allows us to plan a vehicle with enough room, usually the Mercedes V-Class for families and groups with equipment. If you add equipment after booking, let us know by phone, WhatsApp or e-mail.
Can we book the outbound and return ski transfers together?
Yes. You can book the transfer from Geneva Airport to your resort and the return to the airport in the same booking. Give your departure flight and the pick-up address in the resort. Both journeys have a fixed price per vehicle shown before payment, and you receive one e-mail confirmation.
What happens if our flight is delayed on arrival day?
We track your flight number, so the chauffeur adjusts to the real landing time and waits in the arrivals hall with a name board. Waiting caused by a late flight is included in the fixed price. If your flight is cancelled or rerouted, call or WhatsApp +41 78 346 56 77 as soon as you can.
Can we travel between two ski resorts during our stay?
Yes. Transfers can start and end at any address, so you can book a ride from one resort to another, for example to change accommodation mid-holiday. Enter both addresses in the booking form to see the fixed price. For a day trip with stops, a chauffeur by the hour from 2 hours may be more practical.
