Lenzerheide
Lenzerheide is around 417 km from Geneva Airport, and the drive takes about 4 hours 25 minutes, crossing Switzerland via Bern and Zurich to Chur and then climbing south to the resort. Spread around a lake on a broad, high valley, it forms one of the largest linked ski areas in Graubünden together with Arosa. A private transfer with AirportsTransfers.ch brings you there directly from the arrivals hall, with no need to change trains or buses.

The route from Geneva Airport
The first part of the journey follows the main motorway axis of Switzerland: along Lake Geneva to Lausanne, across the Plateau via Bern, and on to Zurich. From Zurich the road runs east along Lake Zurich and Lake Walen and then south through the Rhine valley to Chur. Here you leave the motorway and take the road up through Churwalden and Parpan, climbing steadily to the plateau where Valbella and Lenzerheide sit either side of the Heidsee lake. The climb from Chur is a main road, well maintained throughout the winter and much less winding than the routes to many other resorts. On Saturdays and at the start of school holidays, traffic around Zurich and Chur is the main thing that lengthens the journey.
The ski area: Arosa Lenzerheide
Lenzerheide's slopes rise on both sides of the valley. To the east, the Rothorn massif provides the highest skiing, with a cable car to the Parpaner Rothorn and some challenging descents; this side also connects, via the Urdenbahn cable car across the Urden valley, with Arosa, creating the Arosa Lenzerheide ski area. To the west, the Stätzerhorn and Piz Scalottas slopes are gentler and sunnier, popular with families and intermediates. The variety is a real strength: long blue and red runs, a few steeper pistes, snowparks and freeride options with a guide. Lenzerheide also hosts international ski and biathlon competitions, and the biathlon arena near the village is visible from the road.
For a week's stay, a good pattern is to spend clear days on the Rothorn side and cross to Arosa, then use the western slopes when the weather is uncertain, as their lower, partly wooded terrain offers better visibility. Arosa itself, at the end of its own valley, has a different character, and lunch there before skiing back over the link makes a satisfying day out. Keep an eye on the time, though: the return via the Urdenbahn has a last connection, and missing it means a long detour by road.
The village and the lake
Lenzerheide and its neighbour Valbella are spread across a wide, open valley with the frozen Heidsee at its heart. The setting is spacious rather than cramped, with chalets and hotels scattered along the valley and around the lake. Lenzerheide has a pleasant centre with shops and restaurants, while Valbella is quieter. In winter, the valley floor becomes a network of cross-country trails and winter walking paths, and the lake area is a lovely place for an afternoon stroll. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-oriented, with plenty of activities for non-skiers, including sledging runs and snowshoe trails.
When to go and practical tips
The season usually runs from late November or December until the beginning of April. Mid-winter brings cold, dry snow, while March offers long days and sunny terraces. Swiss school holidays in February are the busiest period. Saturday is changeover day, which means more traffic on the motorway and on the climb from Chur. Our vehicles carry winter equipment, including chains if the weather calls for them. Because the valley is high and open, it can be cold and windy, so pack warm layers. Skis, snowboards and any child seats should be specified when booking.
Planning your return
The drive back to Geneva Airport takes about four and a half hours, so an afternoon or evening flight is the most comfortable choice. Your chauffeur will agree a pick-up time with you and allow extra margin on Saturdays or after snowfall.
