Lenzerheide

Lenzerheide, with its neighbour Valbella, lies on a high plateau between Chur and the Albula valley in Graubünden. It is popular with families, skiers in the Arosa Lenzerheide area, summer mountain bikers and biathlon fans. A private car from Geneva Airport crosses Switzerland in one go, bringing passengers, skis and bikes straight to the chalet or hotel.

Chauffeur's tipTravelling with mountain bikes in summer? Declare them at booking so a van with enough space is assigned and the bikes travel safely.

The route via Zurich and Chur

The journey begins on the A1 motorway along Lake Geneva and across the Swiss Plateau via Bern towards Zurich. The A3 then follows Lake Zurich and the Walensee, passing below the steep Churfirsten cliffs, to Sargans and the Rhine valley, where the A13 leads to Chur. From Chur, the main road climbs in bends via Churwalden to the Lenzerheide plateau. The 417 km take around 4 h 30 in normal traffic; winter Saturdays and the end of school holidays bring heavier traffic on the A3 and around Chur.

Arriving in Lenzerheide

Lenzerheide and Valbella stretch along the Heidsee lake and the valley floor, with ski lifts on both sides: the Rothorn on one side and the Piz Scalottas and Stätzerhorn slopes on the other. Your chauffeur drops you at your hotel, chalet or apartment. The Urdenbahn connects the resort with Arosa, and the Biathlon Arena sits nearby. In summer the same lifts serve the bike park and hiking trails around the plateau.

Practical advice

  • Skis and bikes must be declared at booking.
  • The V-Class van suits families: up to 7 passengers and 10 bags.
  • In winter, allow extra time for snow on the mountain road from Chur.

AirportsTransfers.ch includes waiting time if your flight is delayed and offers return transfers to Geneva Airport, planned with a comfortable margin for a journey of this length. Your chauffeur can also suggest a short break near Zurich or Chur on the way.

The route to Lenzerheide10
How far is Lenzerheide from Geneva Airport?

How long is the drive from Geneva Airport to Lenzerheide?
The drive takes around 4 h 30 in normal traffic. Allow five hours or more on winter Saturdays, at the end of school holidays or after snowfall on the final climb from Chur to Lenzerheide.
What route do you take from Geneva to Lenzerheide?
The chauffeur takes the A1 along Lake Geneva and via Bern towards Zurich, then the A3 along Lake Zurich and the Walensee to Sargans. The A13 follows the Rhine valley to Chur, from where the main road climbs via Churwalden to Lenzerheide.
Is there a border crossing between Geneva and Lenzerheide?
No. The whole route from Geneva Airport to Lenzerheide stays in Switzerland, so there are no border checks. If you land in the French sector of the airport, the chauffeur meets you there and simply drives into Switzerland.
Do I need snow chains for the road to Lenzerheide?
The motorways are kept clear, and the road from Chur to Lenzerheide is a main, well-maintained route. Our vehicles have winter tyres and chains are carried when conditions require them, so you do not need to bring anything.
How bad is Saturday ski traffic on the way to Lenzerheide?
On winter Saturdays the A3 along the Walensee and the area around Chur are busy with skiers changing over. The transfer can then take five hours or more, so an early or midweek arrival makes the trip to Lenzerheide noticeably easier.
When should I leave Geneva Airport to reach Lenzerheide in daylight?

Where can we stop on the drive to Lenzerheide?
Typical breaks are at motorway service areas near Bern or Zurich, along the Walensee, or in Chur, the old capital of Graubünden. Ask your chauffeur for a stop whenever you need one on the long journey.
Is there another way to Lenzerheide besides via Chur?
Coming from Geneva, the route via Chur is the practical choice. Lenzerheide can also be approached from the south via Tiefencastel, but that is mainly used when travelling on from Lenzerheide towards St. Moritz or Davos.
Can I arrange a night transfer to Lenzerheide after a late flight?
Yes. Transfers run around the clock, and quiet night-time motorways help on the long run to Chur. The last climb to Lenzerheide is driven carefully, especially in winter, and you are dropped at your accommodation.
