Anzère
Anzère is about 176 km from Geneva Airport, a drive of a little over two hours without leaving Switzerland. The resort sits on a sunny, south-facing terrace above Sion, beneath the Wildhorn massif, and is built around a pedestrian village square that makes it especially easy for families. AirportsTransfers.ch takes you up the final climb from the Rhône valley and drops you as close to your accommodation as the car-free centre allows.

Getting from Geneva Airport to Anzère
The journey follows the motorway along Lake Geneva via Lausanne and Montreux, then enters the Rhône valley and runs past Martigny towards Sion. Near Sion you leave the motorway and cross to the northern side of the valley, where a road climbs through vineyards and the villages of the Ayent area to Anzère. The ascent is not long, but it has a number of bends and can be snowy in midwinter, so winter tyres are essential and chains are sometimes needed. Allow a little over two hours in normal traffic. Because Anzère faces south and sits on a terrace, the arrival is often in bright sunshine, with a broad view across the valley to the peaks on the other side.
The ski area: sunshine and space
Anzère's slopes rise from the village towards the ridges below the Wildhorn, with a gondola to the Pas de Maimbré serving the upper slopes. The terrain is largely made up of wide blues and reds, ideal for building confidence and for intermediates who want long, unhurried runs with a view. There are also steeper sections and, after fresh snow, off-piste options for experienced skiers, preferably with a local guide. The area is not linked to a large network, which keeps it calm and uncrowded, and it is a good fit for families who do not need hundreds of kilometres of pistes. For a change of scene, larger areas such as Crans-Montana or the 4 Vallées are within reach by car for a day.
The village: a square at the centre of everything
Anzère was designed as a resort with a car-free core. Its central square, surrounded by shops, cafés and restaurants, is the natural meeting point at the end of the day, and children can move around safely. Accommodation is mainly in apartments and chalets, many within walking distance of the lifts, plus a few hotels. The village has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere rather than a busy nightlife. Non-skiers can enjoy winter walks, snowshoe trails and sledging, and the resort's sunny position makes the terraces especially pleasant for a long lunch. Because distances are short, parents can easily pop back to the apartment between lessons.
When to go
The ski season usually runs from mid-December to the end of March or early April. January is often the best time for quiet slopes and settled weather, while February is busy with Swiss and European school holidays. Thanks to its sunny orientation, Anzère is a pleasure in March, when the days are long and warm; the snow on the lower slopes softens in the afternoon, so ski the upper runs later in the day. Christmas and New Year are popular with families, and transfers should be booked early.
Practical tips and day trips
Saturdays bring changeover traffic on the motorway along Lake Geneva and in the Rhône valley, so arriving midweek or early in the day is easier. Pack sunglasses and high-factor sun cream even in January, as the reflection on the snow is strong. With a rest day, Sion is a short drive away, with its old town and the hilltop castles of Valère and Tourbillon, and the vineyards of the Valais line the slopes along the road. A chauffeur by the hour, for a minimum of two hours, is a convenient way to visit the valley without worrying about parking or icy roads. When booking a transfer, give the exact address of your chalet or building to avoid confusion with the car-free centre.
