A ten-day loop by chauffeur is the most comfortable way to see the great landscapes of the Swiss Alps in one trip: the Matterhorn in Valais, the Eiger and Jungfrau in the Bernese Oberland, Lake Lucerne in central Switzerland and the high Engadine in Graubünden. Starting from Geneva Airport, with Zermatt's gateway at Täsch about 2 h 35 away and St. Moritz around 5 h on the way back, AirportsTransfers.ch handles every road leg so you can focus on the views.
- Regions: Lake Geneva, Valais, Bernese Oberland, central Switzerland, Graubünden
- Overnights: Montreux, Zermatt, Grindelwald or Wengen, Lucerne, St. Moritz
- Typical drive: two to three hours between bases, with stops on the way
- Best season: late June to September, when all high passes are open
- Winter version: possible with car-carrying rail tunnels and longer road detours
Days 1 to 3: Lake Geneva and the Matterhorn
Day one is deliberately short. From Geneva Airport, drive along the lake past Lausanne, about 61 km away, to the vineyard terraces of Lavaux and on to Montreux, about 91 km from the airport. Visit the Château de Chillon and spend the night on the lake. On day two, follow the Rhône valley through Valais, stopping in Sion or at a winery, then climb the Mattertal to Täsch, where cars stop. The shuttle train brings you into car-free Zermatt. Day three is for the Matterhorn: the Gornergrat railway, a lakeside walk above Sunnegga or the cable cars towards the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, and an evening in the old village of wooden granaries.
Days 4 to 6: the Bernese Oberland
On day four, your chauffeur collects you at Täsch and drives down to Goppenstein, where the car rides a train through the Lötschberg tunnel to Kandersteg, emerging in the Bernese Oberland. The car-carrying service runs all year and is a classic Swiss experience in itself. Continue past Lake Thun to Interlaken and up to Grindelwald, or to Lauterbrunnen for car-free Wengen. Spend days five and six in the Jungfrau region: the railway to the Jungfraujoch, the waterfalls of the Lauterbrunnen valley, cliff-top Mürren and the trails beneath the north face of the Eiger. A boat on Lake Brienz or Lake Thun makes a gentle half-day if the weather closes in on the high peaks.
Days 7 to 8: Lucerne and its lake
Day seven crosses the Brünig Pass, a low and year-round pass, past Lake Brienz to Lucerne, a drive of under two hours. Walk the medieval Chapel Bridge with its painted panels, the old town squares and the Lion Monument, a moving rock carving that commemorates Swiss guards. Day eight is for the lake: a paddle steamer across Lake Lucerne, and a trip up Mount Rigi or Mount Pilatus, each with sweeping views over the lakes and the Alps. Lucerne is also a good place to rest, with museums such as the Swiss Museum of Transport.
Days 9 to 10: Graubünden and the return
On day nine, drive south to Andermatt, at the crossroads of the Gotthard, Furka and Oberalp routes, then over the Oberalp Pass into Graubünden, along the Vorderrhein valley past the Rhine gorge near Flims, and over the Albula or Julier pass into the Engadine. St. Moritz, Pontresina and the lakes of the Upper Engadine make a fitting finale for a night or two; extend by a day if you can, to visit the Diavolezza or Muottas Muragl viewpoints or to ride the Bernina Express towards Italy. On day ten, the chauffeur drives you back to Geneva Airport, about 400 km and 5 h, with a lunch stop. Alternatively, finish at Zurich Airport, closer to the Engadine.
- Night 1: Montreux. Nights 2 to 3: Zermatt
- Nights 4 to 6: Grindelwald, Wengen or Interlaken
- Nights 7 to 8: Lucerne. Night 9: St. Moritz or Pontresina
Pacing and seasonal advice
The loop works best between late June and September, when the Oberalp, Furka and Grimsel passes are open and the mountain railways run their full schedule. In winter, the Oberalp is closed, so the route from Lucerne to the Engadine goes around via the motorway towards Chur, and the tour becomes a ski or snow trip with fewer bases. In both seasons, avoid stacking long drives: a travel day followed by two full days in place keeps the rhythm relaxed. Keep weather days flexible for the high viewpoints, which are best on clear mornings. Hotel availability in Zermatt, the Jungfrau region and St. Moritz is tight in peak weeks, so book early.
Booking your grand tour
Each leg can be reserved online with AirportsTransfers.ch as a fixed-price transfer, displayed before payment by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or you can book a chauffeur by the hour for touring days. For couples, the Mercedes S-Class makes long drives restful; families and small groups can choose the V-Class, which carries up to seven passengers and ten bags. Child seats are available on request and companies receive invoices. Your chauffeur meets you at Geneva Airport arrivals with a name sign and follows your flight.
