Megève
Megève is only 75 km from Geneva Airport, about 1 h 10 by road, which makes it one of the easiest family ski destinations to reach from Geneva. With AirportsTransfers.ch, child seats are fitted before you arrive, so the children can be at the chalet within a couple of hours of landing, often in time for lunch or an afternoon on the snow.

Getting there with children
The route leaves Geneva on the motorway into France, follows the Arve valley past Cluses and Sallanches, then climbs a short, winding road to Megève. The whole journey takes little more than an hour, so most families do not need a stop at all, although the chauffeur can pause if a child feels unwell on the mountain bends. Tell us when booking how old the children are so the right child seats or boosters are ready.
Such a short transfer changes the whole rhythm of a family holiday. You can take a mid-morning flight and still have time to collect ski hire, show the children the village and settle in. On departure day, there is no need to leave at dawn: a late breakfast and a relaxed departure for an afternoon flight are realistic, which makes a big difference with tired children.
Why Megève suits families
Megève's ski area, part of the Évasion Mont-Blanc domain shared with neighbouring villages such as Saint-Gervais and Combloux, is known for its gentle, tree-lined slopes and wide blue runs. Many pistes wind through forest, which offers shelter on windy or grey days and makes it easier for young skiers to feel secure. The views of Mont Blanc are a bonus that even children notice.
The village itself is a big part of the appeal. Its medieval centre, with a church square, cobbled streets and wooden chalets, is largely car-free, and horse-drawn carriages trot through the streets in winter. It feels safe and easy to walk around, even with small children. The resort is spread over several sectors, so check that your accommodation is near a lift or the free ski buses before you book.
Ski schools and first lessons
Megève has several ski schools offering group and private lessons for children of all ages, from the youngest beginners in snow gardens to teenagers improving their technique. Many have dedicated children's areas with gentle slopes and fun features. In busy holiday weeks, lessons fill quickly, so booking well in advance is wise, particularly for February half-term and Easter.
For the very youngest, there are kindergarten-style clubs where children can play in the snow before trying skis. Parents of mixed-ability families appreciate the many easy runs, which allow everyone to ski together after lessons. If your children are complete beginners, look for accommodation near the nursery slopes to avoid long walks in ski boots.
Beyond skiing: things to do with children
Megève offers plenty for days off the slopes or for younger children not yet ready to ski. There is an ice rink, a sports centre with a swimming pool, sledging areas, snowshoe walks in the forest and dog-sled outings in the area. Horse-drawn sleigh rides around the village and along snowy paths are a favourite with children.
The village also has a cinema, plenty of crêperies and cafés, and a festive atmosphere at Christmas, when lights and decorations fill the streets. The short distance to Geneva also makes Megève suitable for a long weekend, or for adding a day in Geneva or Annecy at the start or end of your stay.
Packing and arrival-day planning
Pack warm layers, helmets if you have your own, and spare gloves and socks for the children, who always seem to get wet. Pharmacies and supermarkets are available in Megève, but bring any specific items you need, such as children's medicines. Declare skis and snowboards at booking so the vehicle has enough space for luggage, buggies and equipment.
If you land in the morning, plan a light first afternoon: ski hire, a short walk in the village and an early dinner. Lessons usually begin the following day, giving children time to adjust. For departure, leave Megève around three hours before your flight, more on busy Saturdays when the Arve valley motorway can be slow.
