Megève
Megève is around 75 km from Geneva Airport, and the drive takes about 70 minutes, crossing into France and following the A40 towards Mont Blanc before climbing a short distance from Sallanches to the village. That makes it one of the most convenient classic Alpine resorts to reach from Geneva. With AirportsTransfers.ch, a chauffeur meets you at arrivals and takes you straight to your chalet or hotel.

Getting to Megève from Geneva Airport
The road leaves the airport, crosses the French border and joins the A40 heading south-east through the Arve valley. After passing Bonneville and Cluses, you leave the motorway near Sallanches. From there a well-maintained road climbs gently through Demi-Quartier to Megève, with Mont Blanc in full view behind you on a clear day.
The final climb is short compared with high-altitude resorts, so the journey is less tiring for children and older travellers. It also makes Megève a realistic option for long weekends and for guests arriving on evening flights. In heavy snow the last few kilometres may require winter equipment, but delays on this road are rarely long.
The ski area: Evasion Mont-Blanc
Megève's slopes are part of the Evasion Mont-Blanc area, which links several massifs around the village. Mont d'Arbois, reached by gondola from the edge of the village, connects over to Saint-Gervais and its upper station at Le Bettex. Rochebrune, on the other side of the village, has its own network of runs including the Côte 2000 sector. Le Jaillet links towards Combloux and La Giettaz, offering open slopes with views of Mont Blanc.
The skiing is generally gentle to medium in difficulty, with many wide, tree-lined pistes that are pleasant on cloudy days. It suits families, cautious intermediates and anyone who values scenery and comfort over steep challenges. Strong skiers can still find interest in the more demanding runs and off-piste areas between the trees, ideally with a local guide, and the larger Chamonix valley is within reach for a day trip.
Because Megève sits at a relatively modest altitude, snow conditions at village level can vary, particularly early and late in the season. The upper parts of the area and the north-facing slopes usually hold snow well, and snowmaking covers many key runs.
The village and where to stay
Megève is known for its medieval centre, with a church square, cobbled lanes and buildings in stone and wood. Horse-drawn sleighs carry visitors through the streets, and the village has a long reputation for fine dining and elegant mountain style. Shops, cafés and restaurants are concentrated around the pedestrian centre.
Accommodation spreads from the centre to the slopes of Mont d'Arbois and Rochebrune, where many chalets sit among the trees. Staying near the Mont d'Arbois or Chamois gondolas gives quick lift access, while central accommodation makes evenings easier. Some chalets are on narrow, steep lanes, so share the full address when booking to help with the drop-off.
When to go and practical tips
The season generally runs from mid-December to the end of March or early April. Christmas, New Year and February are the busiest periods; January and March are calmer, with March often bringing sunny skiing days.
- Saturday traffic: the A40 can slow near Sallanches on changeover Saturdays; an earlier flight helps.
- Winter equipment: chains or winter tyres may be needed on village lanes after fresh snow.
- Skis and luggage: list skis and snowboards when booking so a van can be allocated.
- Return trip: around two hours before your flight is usually enough outside peak weekends.
