Sion Airport
Sion Airport is 156 km from Geneva Airport by road, a drive of about one hour and forty minutes along Lake Geneva and up the Rhône valley, all within Switzerland. It is a popular base for private jets serving the Valais ski resorts, and AirportsTransfers.ch regularly links it with Geneva for passengers who switch between scheduled and private flights.

Why link Geneva and Sion airports?
Sion's airport sits on the valley floor just west of the town, framed by mountains on both sides. It is used above all by business jets and private aircraft, along with helicopter operators and occasional seasonal flights. For many travellers it is the closest landing point to the resorts of the Valais, so private flights often go there directly. Situations that call for a road transfer between the two airports include: a group arriving at Geneva on an airline and continuing by private jet or helicopter from Sion; a private aircraft that cannot land at Sion in poor weather and diverts to Geneva; or passengers whose aircraft is based at one airport while they need to depart from the other. A road link is also the fallback when mountain weather disrupts operations. Because Sion's runway is surrounded by high terrain, low cloud or strong winds can occasionally prevent landings, and having a chauffeur ready to drive passengers either way keeps a holiday or business trip on schedule.
The route along the lake and the Rhône
From Geneva Airport the motorway follows the northern shore of Lake Geneva past Lausanne and the terraced vineyards of Lavaux, then Montreux at the eastern end of the lake. Beyond, the road enters the Rhône valley, passing Aigle and Saint-Maurice before reaching Martigny, where the valley turns east towards Sion. The final stretch runs between vineyards and orchards with the castles of Valère and Tourbillon crowning Sion's hills. It is motorway almost the entire way and generally fluid, but winter Saturdays bring heavy ski traffic towards the Valais, and summer Fridays can be busy around Lausanne.
Train or private car?
Regional trains run from Geneva Airport along the lake and up the valley to Sion station, which makes the train a sensible option for light travellers heading into town. Sion airport, however, is a short distance from the station, so you would need a taxi or local bus for the last part, with luggage. For anyone connecting to a private flight, the timing has to be precise and luggage is usually substantial: skis, boot bags, several suitcases. A car taking you from the arrivals hall at Geneva directly to the general aviation terminal at Sion removes uncertainty, and allows the chauffeur to coordinate with your handler or crew. It also suits families and groups who prefer to stay together.
What a private transfer includes
The chauffeur monitors your inbound flight to Geneva, greets you with a name sign in arrivals and waits without additional cost if the plane is late. The fleet consists of Mercedes vehicles: E-Class (Business Sedan) for up to three passengers and three bags, S-Class (First Class Sedan) for executive comfort, V-Class for up to seven passengers with ten bags and skis, and Sprinter minibus for larger parties. Child seats are fitted on request. For clients arriving at Sion who want to continue to a resort rather than Geneva, onward transfers can be arranged too.
Timing advice
Private flights offer flexibility, but the road still has its rhythms. On peak winter weekends, allow an extra thirty to forty-five minutes beyond the usual drive. If your private departure is booked for a specific slot at Sion, tell us your handler and slot time so the chauffeur aims to arrive with a comfortable margin. Mountain weather can change plans: if your aircraft is diverted from Sion to Geneva, or the reverse, contact us immediately and we will re-route the chauffeur. For flexible days, a chauffeur by the hour (minimum two hours) can wait while plans settle.
