Combloux
Combloux is about 83 km from Geneva Airport, a drive of roughly 70 minutes via the A40 and the road up from Sallanches. The nearest station, Sallanches-Combloux-Megève, is on the Léman Express line after a change at Geneva Cornavin, but the village sits several kilometres above it; for skiers, families and anyone with luggage, a private transfer with AirportsTransfers.ch is the more practical door-to-door option.

Combloux and its view of Mont Blanc
Combloux is a village on the slopes between Sallanches and Megève, famous for its direct, sweeping view of the Mont Blanc massif, which earned it the nickname "the pearl of Mont Blanc". Its onion-domed church and traditional chalets give it a classic Savoyard character. The ski area is part of Evasion Mont-Blanc, linked with Megève and Saint-Gervais, and the slopes above Combloux are known for their gentle, wide runs with views, which appeal to families and intermediate skiers. In summer, the village is popular for walking and for its natural swimming lake.
Accommodation is spread across the hillside, from the village centre to hamlets and chalets near the lifts. That dispersion is the main factor in deciding how to get there.
Combloux also attracts visitors who want a calmer alternative to its better-known neighbour Megève while sharing the same ski area. Families often rent a chalet for the week, sometimes with grandparents, which means more people, more bags and more equipment arriving at once than a typical city break.
By train: the valley station
From Geneva Airport, take a train to Geneva Cornavin and change onto the Léman Express up the Arve valley to the station of Sallanches-Combloux-Megève. As the name suggests, this is the rail gateway for Combloux, but it is located in the valley at Sallanches. From there, you need a bus, a taxi or a lift up the winding road to the village.
For a light traveller arriving in daylight, this works and avoids road traffic on the valley floor. With skis, children and suitcases, it becomes three stages, with waiting at each one, and in the evening local connections become rare. After a late flight, finding a taxi at the station may not be easy, particularly on busy winter weekends.
Coaches and shuttles
In winter, shared coaches from Geneva Airport serve the resorts of the Mont Blanc country, generally on fixed schedules, especially on Saturdays. Some stop in Combloux or nearby Megève. They are economical for individuals but follow set times and drop-off points, which may not match your flight or your accommodation.
Private transfer: valley, climb and doorstep in one go
By car, your chauffeur leaves the airport, crosses the border into France, follows the A40 towards Chamonix and leaves at Sallanches, then climbs the road to Combloux. You are dropped at your chalet or hotel, wherever it is on the slope. The final climb offers the first great view of Mont Blanc, a pleasant way to begin a holiday after a flight.
A private transfer is the logical choice for:
- skiing families who need child seats and space for equipment;
- groups of friends sharing one fixed price in a Mercedes V-Class van, which takes up to seven people with skis and ten bags;
- larger parties in a Mercedes Sprinter minibus;
- travellers on late or early flights, outside the hours when public transport is convenient.
Saturday traffic and winter conditions
The upper Arve valley is one of the busiest routes into the Alps on winter Saturdays, and traffic can build up around Sallanches, where the roads to Combloux, Megève and Saint-Gervais divide. After snowfall, the climb to the village needs winter equipment, which transfer vehicles carry. If your dates are flexible, arriving on a Sunday or midweek is noticeably calmer. For your return, leave plenty of margin on Saturday mornings.
The honest summary: the train is a reasonable choice for light travellers who do not mind a final connection. For skiers, families and groups, the private transfer removes the hardest part of the journey, the climb from the valley with luggage.
