Disentis
Disentis, known locally as Mustér, is around 323 km from Geneva Airport and the drive takes roughly four hours. Because several high passes close in winter, the exact route depends on the season, and your chauffeur chooses the best option on the day. AirportsTransfers.ch takes you straight from the arrivals hall to the door of your hotel or chalet in the Surselva, without changes of train or bus.

Getting to Disentis in winter
Disentis sits in the upper valley of the Vorderrhein, close to the Oberalp Pass. In summer the shortest line from Geneva can use the Alpine passes, but in winter the Furka and Oberalp roads are closed to normal traffic. The road route then generally runs across the Swiss Plateau and into Graubünden, before climbing west up the Surselva valley through Ilanz, a scenic final stretch along the young Rhine. Another winter option combines the Valais with the Furka car-carrying train, which shortens the drive on some days. Whatever the route, the important point is the same: you sit back while a professional driver handles the planning, the mountain roads and the weather, and you arrive with skis and luggage at your door.
The ski area: freeride terrain and long descents
The Disentis ski area rises steeply from the town towards the high ground around Piz Ault, and it has a strong reputation among freeriders. Wide, open slopes above the treeline give plenty of options after a snowfall, and on a clear day the long run from the top back towards the valley is one of the attractions of the resort. There are groomed pistes for intermediates, and gentler slopes for beginners, but the character of the place is sporty and natural rather than polished. Lift queues are rarely an issue compared with the big names in Graubünden, which makes Disentis appealing to people who prefer skiing to waiting. Anyone heading off-piste should go with a local guide and the right avalanche equipment.
The neighbouring Sedrun area lies a short distance down the valley and is now linked with Andermatt over the Oberalp, so a day trip by car or train is easy if you want to add more variety to your week. Many visitors combine a few days of freeride in Disentis with a day on the groomed runs of the Andermatt-Sedrun area, which gives a good balance for groups with mixed abilities.
The town and the monastery
The first thing you notice on arrival is the white Benedictine abbey, which has stood above Disentis for well over a thousand years and gives the town its quiet dignity. Disentis is a working valley town as well as a resort, with shops, cafés and a station on the Rhaetian Railway: the Glacier Express passes through on its way between Zermatt and St. Moritz. Romansh is widely spoken, and you will see it on signs and hear it in the streets. Accommodation ranges from family-run hotels to holiday flats, and most of it is within easy reach of the lift station.
Best time to go and practical tips
The season usually runs from December to Easter. Mid-winter brings cold, powdery snow, while March offers longer days and spring snow on the lower slopes. Swiss school holidays in February are the busiest weeks, but even then Disentis remains relatively calm. Saturdays are changeover days across the Alps, so the motorways around Lausanne and Bern can be slow in the morning and the afternoon. Winter tyres are standard on our vehicles and chains are carried when needed. Bring a soft ski bag rather than a rigid case if you can, as it makes loading easier, and declare skis or snowboards at booking so that a vehicle with enough space is reserved.
Planning the return to Geneva
Because the journey back takes around four hours, an early-afternoon or evening flight is the most relaxed choice. If you need to catch a morning flight, consider spending your last night closer to Geneva. Your chauffeur will propose a pick-up time that allows for the route, the weather and the day of the week.
How to book your private transfer
On AirportsTransfers.ch you choose your vehicle and see a fixed price for the whole car before paying securely by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The chauffeur waits in arrivals with your name on a sign, follows your flight in real time and waits at no extra charge if you are delayed. Families and groups usually take the Mercedes V-Class, which carries up to seven passengers with skis, and child seats are fitted on request. Larger groups can book a Sprinter minibus. Questions can be sent by phone or WhatsApp to +41 78 346 56 77, at any time of day.
