Disentis

Disentis/Mustér, in the Surselva at the source of the Rhine, is dominated by its great Benedictine abbey and offers uncrowded skiing on the slopes of Disentis 3000. It is far from the main rail lines from Geneva, so a private chauffeur is the simplest way to reach it with skis, luggage and children in a single journey.

Chauffeur's tipThe Oberalp and Furka passes close in winter, so the winter route goes via Chur and takes longer; check the season with us when choosing your pick-up time.

The route to Disentis, summer and winter

In summer the shortest road runs along Lake Geneva and up the Rhône valley through Valais to Brig and Goms, then over the Furka Pass to Andermatt and the Oberalp Pass down into the Surselva. That is about 323 km and around four hours, with spectacular high-mountain scenery. In winter both passes are closed to cars, so your chauffeur either uses the Furka car-carrying train between Oberwald and Realp where conditions allow, or takes the motorway via Bern and Zurich to Chur and then the Vorderrhein valley road west through Ilanz to Disentis. The winter route is longer, and the timing is planned accordingly.

Arriving in Disentis

The village spreads below the abbey, with hotels and apartments along the main road and on the slopes towards the lift station of Disentis 3000. The chauffeur drops you at your accommodation. Nearby Sedrun, a few minutes up the valley, is connected with Andermatt by ski lifts, so you can also ski that area during your stay.

Practical advice

AirportsTransfers.ch recommends declaring skis and snowboards at booking so the right vehicle is sent, from the Mercedes V-Class for up to 7 passengers to a Sprinter minibus for larger groups. Child seats are available on request. Your flight is tracked and waiting time is included if it lands late. Book the return together with the outbound trip, and leave Disentis early on departure day in winter.

How long is the drive from Geneva Airport to Disentis?

Which route does the chauffeur take to Disentis in summer?
In summer the chauffeur follows Lake Geneva and the Rhône valley through Valais to Brig and the Goms, then crosses the Furka Pass to Andermatt and the Oberalp Pass down into the Surselva and Disentis. It is a spectacular high-mountain route.
How do you reach Disentis in winter when the passes are closed?
The Furka and Oberalp passes are closed to cars in winter. Your chauffeur either uses the Furka car-carrying train between Oberwald and Realp where conditions allow, or drives via Bern and Zurich to Chur and then up the Vorderrhein valley through Ilanz to Disentis.
