Rougemont
Rougemont is about 150 km from Geneva Airport, roughly 1 hour 50 minutes by road via Bulle and the Pays-d'Enhaut, or via Aigle and the Col des Mosses. The trip stays in Switzerland and ends in a beautifully preserved chalet village at the western edge of the Gstaad region; AirportsTransfers.ch can drive you there directly from the terminal.

The route from Geneva Airport
The most common route follows the A1 to Lausanne and the A12 towards Bern, leaving at Bulle. A valley road then climbs gently along the Sarine through the Gruyère countryside to Château-d'Oex, and Rougemont lies a few kilometres further on. The alternative runs along Lake Geneva on the A9 to Aigle, then over the Col des Mosses and down to Château-d'Oex. Your chauffeur will choose depending on snow and traffic.
Both roads are well maintained, and the Bulle route avoids a pass, which is helpful in heavy snow. Rougemont is also on the scenic railway between Montreux and Gstaad, which you may enjoy during your stay, though arriving with luggage and skis is easier by road.
The ski area: the Videmanette and beyond
Rougemont's own mountain is the Videmanette, reached by a gondola from the village. The upper station sits among dramatic limestone peaks and opens onto pistes that run down towards Saanen and Rougemont, as well as a well-known network of off-piste terrain. The Videmanette has a strong reputation among freeriders for its varied off-piste routes after fresh snow, including long descents back towards the valley; these must be skied with a qualified guide.
On piste, the area suits confident intermediates and good skiers, with red runs and a few steeper sections. Rougemont is part of the wider Gstaad ski region, which includes areas such as Saanenmöser, Schönried, Zweisimmen and the Glacier 3000. With a regional pass, you can explore a different sector each day by short drives or train journeys.
The village: wooden chalets and a quiet pace
Rougemont is often described as one of the prettiest villages in the region. Its old wooden chalets, many with carved and painted façades, line the main street, and a Romanesque church with a castle beside it marks the centre. The village sits on the language border: it is the last French-speaking community before Saanen and German-speaking Bernese Oberland, and you will hear both languages.
Atmosphere is calm and discreet, attracting visitors who want the Gstaad region without the busier centre of Gstaad itself. A few shops, restaurants and a small grocery serve the village, while Gstaad's boutiques and restaurants are a short drive away. Accommodation ranges from traditional hotels to luxury chalets, so give the exact address when booking your transfer.
For guests staying a week, a chauffeur by the hour, booked for at least two hours, is a practical way to move between Rougemont, Gstaad and the other ski sectors without driving yourself in winter conditions.
When to go and practical tips
The season usually runs from mid-December to the end of March. Rougemont sits at a moderate altitude, so the heart of winter offers the best conditions in the village, while the higher Videmanette holds snow better. The Christmas and New Year period is especially popular in the Gstaad region, as are February holidays.
- Weekend traffic: the Lausanne stretch of the motorway is the main pinch point.
- Snow chains: more likely to be needed on the Col des Mosses route.
- Equipment: declare skis and any off-piste kit at booking.
- Ski pass: a regional Gstaad pass gives the most flexibility.
Returning to Geneva Airport
Allow around three hours between leaving Rougemont and your flight time, and more in snowy conditions or on busy holiday weekends. The valley road to Bulle and the A12 usually flow smoothly. Booking your return together with your arrival transfer fixes the pick-up in advance.
