From the airport to Annecy, then up the mountain
The first part of the journey is a quick motorway run south from Geneva to Annecy, around 44 km. From there, a mountain road climbs through forest to the Semnoz plateau. The climb is steady and winding, so children prone to car sickness may appreciate a pause in Annecy before the final section.
Many families do not stay on the mountain at all. Annecy, with its lake, old town and canals, makes a comfortable base with a wide choice of accommodation, and the drive up for a morning on the snow is short. That combination of city and snow is one of the main reasons to choose Le Semnoz.

Children who are not keen on cold days often enjoy this balance.
