Vevey
Vevey is about 80 km from Geneva Airport, around 1 hour 10 minutes by road along the motorway above Lake Geneva. The train is a genuinely good option here, since the airport station has regular services along the lake, but a private transfer with AirportsTransfers.ch still wins when you have heavy luggage, a group or a flight at an awkward hour.

The lakeside railway: a strong option
Geneva Airport has its own railway station directly beneath the terminal, and trains run along the northern shore of Lake Geneva towards Lausanne and the Riviera. Depending on the service, you either travel through to Vevey or change at Lausanne for a regional train that stops in the smaller lakeside towns. The ride is comfortable and the final stretch past the Lavaux vineyard terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of the prettiest in the country. Vevey station sits close to the town centre and the lakefront, so if your hotel is near the Grande Place market square or the promenade with the Charlie Chaplin statue, the walk from the platform is short. For a light traveller arriving at midday, the train is hard to fault. Ticket machines and a ticket office are in the airport station, and the platforms are reached by lift or escalator from the arrivals level, so even with a medium suitcase the start of the journey is straightforward. Tourist visitors staying in a Geneva-region hotel are often given a local transport pass, but that pass covers the Geneva zone only, so a separate ticket is needed for the Riviera.
Where the train becomes less convenient
Things get trickier once you leave the flat lakeside strip. Vevey climbs steeply into the hills of Corsier, Chardonne and Saint-Légier, home to many residences, clinics and the Chaplin museum at Corsier-sur-Vevey. Reaching those addresses from the station means a bus, a funicular or a taxi, and handling suitcases on each leg. A change at Lausanne with several bags, or with tired children, also adds friction after a flight. A chauffeur collects you in the arrivals hall and drives straight to the door, wherever on the hillside it happens to be. The same applies to villas and apartments further along the shore at La Tour-de-Peilz or Corseaux, which sit between stations. If you are staying in one of those spots, the minutes saved by rail are quickly lost again on the final leg, and a door-to-door journey is often just as quick overall.
Business travel and corporate visitors
Vevey is home to the global headquarters of Nestlé, and the wider Riviera hosts many international companies, private banks and medical clinics. Visitors on a tight schedule often prefer to work or take calls during the drive rather than juggle connections. A Mercedes E-Class Business Sedan suits one to three travellers; a Mercedes S-Class First Class Sedan is available for senior guests. Companies can receive invoices, and a chauffeur can be booked by the hour, with a two-hour minimum, for meetings across the region on the same day.
Groups, families and per-person cost
The fare for the train is per passenger; a private transfer is a fixed price per vehicle. For one person, rail is the economical choice. For a family of four, a wedding party or colleagues travelling together, sharing one vehicle narrows the gap considerably and removes the change of trains. A Mercedes V-Class takes up to seven passengers with ten bags, and a Mercedes Sprinter minibus carries larger groups heading to a Riviera event or a hotel on the lake. Child seats are fitted on request.
When to choose which
Take the train if you are travelling light, staying near Vevey station or the lake, and landing during the day. Choose a car if you are heading up the hillside, carrying lots of luggage, travelling with children, or catching a flight early in the morning or late at night when connections are thin. For a return flight, a car also removes any worry about missing a connection at Lausanne. A sensible mix many visitors use is the train on arrival, when they are fresh and the day is long, and a car for the departure, when timing to the airport check-in matters more.
