Les Paccots
Les Paccots is about 98 km from Geneva Airport, roughly 1 hour 10 minutes by road, in the Fribourg Pre-Alps above the small town of Châtel-Saint-Denis. Without a car you need trains to Châtel-Saint-Denis and a local bus for the final climb; a private transfer with AirportsTransfers.ch covers the whole route from the airport kerb to your chalet or hotel.

What Les Paccots is like
Les Paccots is a small mountain resort rather than a big ski station. In winter it offers gentle, family-friendly pistes and sledging, a relaxed atmosphere and short lift queues; in summer it is a base for walks in the Pre-Alps, including the path to the little Lac des Joncs and routes towards the Moléson area. It looks out over Lake Geneva and the Riviera from a modest altitude, which means snow conditions vary from year to year, and many visitors come for a weekend or a few days rather than a full week. The resort is spread out along the road above Châtel-Saint-Denis, with chalets, holiday flats and a few hotels scattered on the slopes. Because it is so close to the Riviera, it is popular with day visitors from Vevey and Montreux at weekends, while visitors flying in from abroad tend to stay longer and want a smooth arrival rather than a puzzle of connections. In summer the cooler air and open pastures make it a pleasant escape from the heat of the lake.
Getting there by train and bus
From the airport station you head along the lake and then inland into canton Fribourg. Reaching Châtel-Saint-Denis generally involves at least one change of train, sometimes two depending on the connection you catch, with Lausanne a common starting point for the regional leg. From Châtel-Saint-Denis station a local bus climbs to Les Paccots, with a reduced service outside peak periods. The journey is scenic, and for a hiker with a rucksack arriving in the middle of the day it is a reasonable option. It is less comfortable with sledges, skis, children and a week's shopping in tow, and the last bus of the day may come earlier than an evening flight allows. Checking the latest connections before you fly is essential, as regional timetables change with the seasons and outside school holidays the bus service to the resort can be sparse.
Children, skis and the final climb
Families are the core visitors of Les Paccots, and families travel with a lot of kit. Ski boots, helmets, children's skis, a buggy and suitcases do not combine well with two changes of train and a mountain bus. A private car removes those steps: you load once at Geneva Airport and unload at the door. Child seats and booster seats are fitted on request, and the chauffeur can plan a short break if little ones need it. A Mercedes V-Class van takes up to seven passengers and ten bags including skis, which suits two families sharing a chalet. If you plan to bring sledges, mention them in the booking notes as well; they travel easily in a van when space has been planned for them.
Cost per person and short breaks
Rail tickets are per passenger, whereas a transfer is a fixed price per vehicle. For a solo walker, public transport is cheaper. For four or more people, sharing one vehicle makes the comparison much closer, and for a short break the time saved counts for more: an extra hour on the slopes or the trail is a real gain over a two-day stay. Larger groups, such as a club outing or a school trip, can travel together in a Mercedes Sprinter minibus. A chauffeur by the hour, with a two-hour minimum, is another possibility if you want to stop in Gruyères or on the Riviera on the way up.
When the train works, and when a car is better
Use the train and bus if you are a light traveller, arrive at a convenient time and are staying near a bus stop. Choose a private transfer if you have children or ski equipment, if your accommodation is on a side road, or if your flight lands in the evening or leaves early in the morning. On snowy days the road is cleared, but a professional driver used to winter conditions is a comfort. For the return, a car collecting you at the chalet means you can ski the morning and still reach the airport without rushing for a bus.
