Friedrichshafen Airport
Friedrichshafen Airport is 410 km from Geneva Airport by road, roughly four hours and twenty-five minutes across Switzerland and into Germany on the northern shore of Lake Constance. Exhibitors, trade fair visitors and holidaymakers often face awkward rail connections on this route, which is why AirportsTransfers.ch offers a direct private transfer from Geneva's arrivals hall to Friedrichshafen.
- Distance: 410 km by road

- Border crossing: the route crosses the border into Germany north of Zurich
- Typical reasons: trade fairs, Lake Constance holidays, open-jaw trips, business visits

Why connect Geneva and Friedrichshafen?
Friedrichshafen is a lakeside town in Baden-Württemberg widely known as the birthplace of the Zeppelin airships, and today it is an important industrial and trade fair centre. Its exhibition grounds, right beside the airport, host international fairs, including a major general aviation show and large outdoor and motorhome exhibitions. The airport offers a modest network of flights, so visitors from further afield often land in Geneva or another hub and continue by road. Holidaymakers combining the Lake Geneva region with Lake Constance, or business travellers visiting companies around the lake in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, also use this link. When a flight to Friedrichshafen is cancelled, a road transfer from Geneva can save the trip. The lake itself is a draw too: the island of Mainau with its gardens, the medieval town of Meersburg and the Lindau island old town are all within easy reach of the airport.
The route via Zurich and Lake Constance
From Geneva Airport the motorway follows Lake Geneva to Lausanne, crosses the Swiss plateau via Bern and continues to Zurich. North of Zurich, the route crosses into Germany and approaches Lake Constance, continuing along the northern side of the lake through orchards and vineyards to Friedrichshafen. The roads near the lake are not all motorway, so the last part is slower and more scenic, with views across the water to the Swiss and Austrian Alps on clear days. The main sources of delay are rush hour around Bern and Zurich and, in summer, holiday traffic around the lake. During major trade fairs, roads near the exhibition grounds can be very busy.
Train or private car?
Rail connections from Geneva Airport to Friedrichshafen exist but involve at least two changes, typically via Zurich and then on regional lines around the lake, sometimes including a ferry or a bus. For an exhibitor carrying samples, brochures or equipment, or for a team of colleagues arriving together, this is impractical. A private car handles everything in one vehicle, with space for display material in a V-Class or Sprinter, and can drop you right at the exhibition entrance or your hotel instead of the airport. For a solo traveller with a backpack and a flexible day, the rail and ferry journey can be a pleasant way to see the region.
What is included
The chauffeur tracks your flight to Geneva, meets you with a name sign in the arrivals hall and waits at no extra cost if you land late. Choose a Mercedes E-Class for up to three passengers and three bags, an S-Class for executive travel, a V-Class for up to seven passengers and ten bags, or a Sprinter minibus for exhibitor teams and groups. Child seats are available on request. Invoices are issued for companies, and a chauffeur by the hour (minimum two hours) can be booked for client visits around the lake. While in Friedrichshafen, the Zeppelin Museum on the harbour front is a worthwhile visit.
Timing your trip
For a flight from Friedrichshafen, add the drive time and a margin of at least forty-five minutes, then aim to arrive around ninety minutes before a European departure; the terminal is small and easy to navigate. For trade fairs, check the opening time on the day of your visit and allow extra time for traffic on the approach roads. If you are connecting from an inbound flight at Geneva, include baggage reclaim and possible queues at passport control. Let us know straight away if your plans change.
