St. Gallen-Altenrhein Airport
St. Gallen-Altenrhein Airport is 376 km from Geneva Airport by road, about three hours and fifty minutes from one end of Switzerland to the other, from Lake Geneva to the shore of Lake Constance. The airport mainly serves business and private aviation for eastern Switzerland and the neighbouring Vorarlberg region, and AirportsTransfers.ch provides the road link for passengers who arrive at Geneva and continue from Altenrhein, or the reverse.

Why link Geneva and Altenrhein?
Altenrhein sits in a quiet corner of north-eastern Switzerland, where the Rhine flows into Lake Constance and Austria lies just across the river. Its airport has a limited scheduled service and is used above all by business aviation, serving the industrial and financial companies of St. Gallen, Appenzell, the Rhine valley, Liechtenstein and western Austria. Geneva, at the opposite end of the country, offers the long-haul and international connections. The road link between them is useful when a private aircraft is based in the east while passengers land in Geneva; when an executive moves between head offices in the two regions; when weather forces a diversion; or when a family travelling to a holiday home on Lake Constance or in the Appenzell hills arrives on an international flight into Geneva.
The route across the country
From Geneva Airport the motorway follows Lake Geneva to Lausanne, crosses the plateau via Fribourg to Bern, and continues north-east past the Aare valley to Zurich. After the Zurich ring, the road heads towards Winterthur and on to St. Gallen, a city of hills and textile heritage, before descending to the Rhine plain and Lake Constance at Altenrhein. It is motorway nearly all the way, but it is also Switzerland's busiest corridor, and Bern and especially Zurich can be congested at morning and evening rush hours. The chauffeur will plan the departure time to avoid the worst peaks and suggest a break around the halfway point.
Train or private car?
Switzerland's main east–west intercity line runs from Geneva Airport through Lausanne, Bern and Zurich to St. Gallen, sometimes without a change, so the train is a real option for travellers with light luggage. The airport at Altenrhein, however, requires a further connection from St. Gallen or Rorschach by regional train, bus or taxi. For someone meeting a private aircraft at a fixed time, carrying several bags or golf clubs, or travelling with family or colleagues, a car from Geneva's arrivals hall to Altenrhein's terminal is simpler and more predictable. It also provides a private space to work or make calls for almost four hours.
What a private transfer includes
The chauffeur tracks your flight, meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign and waits without additional charge if the plane is late. You travel in a Mercedes chosen for your party: E-Class for up to three passengers and three bags, S-Class for executive travel, V-Class for up to seven passengers and ten bags, or Sprinter for larger groups. Child seats are installed on request. If you have an appointment on the way, for example in Bern or Zurich, the stop can be built into the booking. Before or after a flight, St. Gallen's old town and its Abbey District, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its celebrated Baroque library, are close to the airport.
Timing advice
Add the drive time to a margin of thirty to forty-five minutes, more if you travel at rush hour around Zurich or on a Friday afternoon. Share your aircraft's departure time and handler with us so the chauffeur can aim for the correct entrance. If you are arriving at Geneva on an international flight first, allow for passport control and baggage reclaim. If plans change, for example because your aircraft's slot moves or a flight is delayed, let us know as soon as possible. For flexible days, the chauffeur can also be booked by the hour, with a two-hour minimum.
