Courchevel is about 150 km from Geneva Airport and the drive usually takes around two hours and fifteen minutes, crossing into France and heading south into the Tarentaise valley. The last stretch climbs from Moûtiers through a series of bends to the resort's villages. The road from Geneva to Courchevel

Leaving the airport, the route soon crosses the border into France and joins the motorway heading south past Annecy towards Albertville. From Albertville a dual carriageway follows the Isère river up the Tarentaise valley to Moûtiers, the gateway town for both Courchevel and Méribel. From there the road climbs east through Saint-Bon towards the resort, with the villages strung out along the mountainside at different heights.

The Tarentaise valley is the busiest ski route in the French Alps on winter Saturdays, when thousands of guests change over across many resorts. Traffic can build around Albertville and Moûtiers in the late morning and early afternoon. Choosing a flight that lands early, or arriving midweek if your accommodation allows, makes a real difference to the journey.

The ski area: Les 3 Vallées

Courchevel forms the eastern end of Les 3 Vallées, widely described as the largest linked ski area in the world. From its slopes you can ski over to Méribel and on towards Les Menuires and Val Thorens, so a single week rarely feels repetitive. Courchevel's own sector is known for wide, carefully groomed pistes, a modern lift network and reliable snow on its many north-facing slopes.

There is terrain for every level. Beginners have dedicated gentle areas close to the villages, intermediates have a huge choice of blue and red runs, and experts can tackle the steep couloirs above Courchevel 1850 or head off-piste with a guide. Tree-lined runs down towards Le Praz and La Tania are a good option on snowy, low-visibility days.

Choosing between the Courchevel villages

Courchevel is not one village but several, each with its own atmosphere. Courchevel 1850 is the highest and the most famous, home to high-end chalets, designer shops and the small altiport. Courchevel Moriond, at 1650, has a sunny, relaxed feel and direct access to good intermediate skiing. Courchevel Village, at 1550, is compact and quiet, linked to 1850 by a gondola. Le Praz, the lowest, keeps the character of an old Savoyard hamlet with tree-lined slopes above it, and nearby La Tania is a small, wooded resort within the same lift network.

Your choice affects the transfer as well: the higher villages add a few extra minutes of climbing, and some chalets sit on steep private roads where a van is easier than a large coach. Give your full address when booking so the chauffeur can plan the last few hundred metres. If you are heading to La Tania or Le Praz, the journey is slightly shorter than to 1850, and a direct drop-off at the door saves dragging cases through the snow.

When to go and practical tips

The season normally runs from early December to mid-April. Early January is a quieter window after New Year, February is busy with school holidays, and March offers long days with good snow at altitude.

  • Saturday changeover: expect heavier traffic in the Tarentaise valley; consider a Sunday or midweek arrival.
  • Snow chains: French mountain roads require winter equipment in the cold season; professional vehicles carry what is needed.
  • Luggage and skis: chalet holidays often mean extra bags, so state the number of skis and cases when booking.
  • Return trip: allow at least three and a half hours before a Saturday flight.

Booking a private transfer to Courchevel

Reserving with AirportsTransfers.ch is done online: you choose the vehicle, see a fixed price for it before paying and complete the payment by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. On arrival a chauffeur waits with a name sign in the arrivals hall, and because flights are tracked, a late landing simply means your driver adjusts, with waiting time included. The Mercedes V-Class carries up to seven passengers and their skis, the S-Class suits couples who want extra comfort, and a Sprinter minibus takes larger chalet groups. Child seats are provided on request, and skis should be listed when booking. You can reach the Geneva team day or night on +41 78 346 56 77, by call or WhatsApp.
