Annecy
Annecy is 44 km from Geneva Airport, about 40 minutes by motorway, and the route crosses the border into France. The town is famous for its canal-lined old town and for Lake Annecy, framed by mountains, which makes it one of the most visited places in the French Alps. AirportsTransfers.ch offers door-to-door transfers from the arrivals hall to hotels in town and around the lake.

Getting to Annecy from the airport
From the airport the route skirts the city of Geneva and crosses into France near Saint-Julien-en-Genevois, then follows the A41 motorway south through rolling hills to Annecy. It is a short, easy journey on a quiet day, but summer weekends and holiday departures bring heavy traffic around the lake itself, where roads are narrow and parking is scarce.
This is where a transfer helps: your chauffeur drops you at your hotel or rental apartment, even in the pedestrianised heart of the old town where the car can only approach so far. If you are staying in one of the lakeside villages such as Talloires or Menthon-Saint-Bernard, the extra stretch along the shore is part of the same booking.
The old town and the lake
Annecy's Vieille Ville is a compact maze of arcaded streets, pastel façades and narrow canals fed by the Thiou river. Its best-known landmark is the Palais de l'Isle, a medieval building on an island in the canal that once served as a prison and now houses an exhibition on the town's history. Above the old town, the Château d'Annecy, former residence of the Counts of Geneva, holds a museum and gives a fine view over the rooftops.
The lake is the town's other great asset. The Jardins de l'Europe and the wide lawns of the Pâquier run along the shore, the Pont des Amours crosses the canal du Vassé, and boats leave for cruises around the lake. A cycle path follows much of the western shore, and in summer the water is clear and warm enough for swimming from public beaches. Annecy also hosts an internationally known animation film festival, which brings a creative crowd to the town.
Where to stay
Staying in or next to the old town puts the canals, restaurants and markets on your doorstep, but it can be busy and noisy on summer evenings. The lakeside near the Pâquier and Annecy-le-Vieux offers more space and views, while Talloires and other villages on the eastern shore are quieter, with the mountains rising straight from the water.
Business travellers will find conference venues and hotels used to corporate groups in and around the town, and Annecy's proximity to Geneva makes it a popular choice for off-site meetings and incentive trips combining work with time on the lake.
Food, day trips and the mountains
Annecy is in the heart of Savoyard cooking: reblochon cheese from the nearby Aravis mountains, tartiflette, fondue and raclette, along with lake fish on many menus. The old town's market days are lively, and local wines from Savoie pair naturally with the food.
For day trips, the Semnoz mountain above the town offers views of the lake and of Mont Blanc on clear days, and the Col de la Forclaz above the eastern shore is a famous launch site for paragliders. In winter, the ski resorts of La Clusaz and Le Grand-Bornand are close, and Chamonix is within reach for a day. The Château de Menthon-Saint-Bernard, perched above the lake, is a picturesque stop.
Practical tips
Annecy is very popular in summer and around school holidays, so book accommodation early and plan to explore the old town in the morning before the crowds. France uses the euro rather than the Swiss franc, so carry a card that works in both currencies. Remember that roaming conditions on your phone may change when you cross into France.
If you want to visit Geneva and Annecy on the same trip, you can combine both with a split itinerary, starting in one and finishing in the other, which avoids doubling back.
How to book your Annecy transfer
With AirportsTransfers.ch you book online and see the full price for the vehicle before you pay with card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Your chauffeur follows your flight, greets you with a name sign and waits if the plane is late. Families can request child seats, and a Mercedes V-Class van takes up to seven passengers and their luggage, including bikes and skis if declared at booking.
