Karlsruhe
Karlsruhe is 442 km from Geneva Airport, roughly 4 h 15 by road, with most of the journey on fast motorways through Switzerland and then north along the Rhine valley into Germany. It is a planned baroque city with a famous fan-shaped street plan, home to Germany's highest courts and a major technology university. AirportsTransfers.ch can take you there directly from the arrivals hall, without changes or luggage hauling.

- Getting there: private transfer, or train with a change in Basel
The route from Geneva Airport
The drive is straightforward. From Geneva the motorway heads across the Swiss Plateau towards Bern or along the Jura foot towards Biel, then on to Basel. After the border the German A5 runs north through the Upper Rhine plain, with the Black Forest hills on your right and the Vosges visible across the river in France. Karlsruhe lies just off this motorway, so there is no tricky final stretch.
Because the route is mostly motorway, timings are fairly reliable outside rush hours around Basel and on the A5 near Freiburg and Offenburg. Your chauffeur can plan a break roughly halfway, and late-night arrivals at Geneva are no problem since we operate around the clock.
A city built around a palace
Karlsruhe was founded in the early eighteenth century by the Margrave of Baden-Durlach, and its layout still tells the story: some thirty-odd streets radiate like the spokes of a fan from the palace tower, which is why it is known as the fan city. The palace itself houses the Baden State Museum, and the gardens behind it open into the Hardtwald forest. The Staatliche Kunsthalle holds an important collection of European paintings, from the old masters to the nineteenth century.
For contemporary culture, the ZKM Center for Art and Media is internationally known for media art and digital installations, set in a vast former munitions factory. Karlsruhe is also the seat of the Federal Constitutional Court and the Federal Court of Justice, which gives it the nickname of the residence of law. Lunch in the city tends towards hearty Baden cooking, with local wines from the nearby Kraichgau and Ortenau areas.
Business, research and where to stay
Many visitors come for work. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is one of Germany's leading engineering universities, and the region has a strong IT and energy sector. The trade fair grounds lie just south of the city, near Rheinstetten. A private transfer is particularly useful for business travellers who want to work in the car, arrive at a specific campus entrance or keep to a tight meeting schedule.
The city centre around the market square and the Kaiserstraße shopping street is convenient for walking, with good tram connections. Durlach, an older town absorbed into Karlsruhe, has a more village-like atmosphere and a funicular up the Turmberg hill. The Südstadt and Weststadt areas offer quieter residential stays within easy reach of the centre.
Day trips from Karlsruhe
Baden-Baden, with its thermal baths and casino, is a short drive south. The northern Black Forest begins almost at the city edge, and the Black Forest High Road offers fine viewpoints. Heidelberg and its castle ruins are around an hour north, Speyer has its great Romanesque cathedral, and Strasbourg lies just across the Rhine in France. With a chauffeur booked by the hour you can combine two of these in a single day.
Practical tips for Karlsruhe
The city centre is compact and largely flat, so walking and cycling are easy, and the tram network reaches well into the surrounding towns. Many central streets are pedestrianised, so tell us your exact address when booking and your chauffeur will find the nearest practical drop-off. Summers on the Upper Rhine plain are among the warmest in Germany, while spring and early autumn are comfortable for sightseeing. If you are combining Karlsruhe with Strasbourg or Baden-Baden, a return trip can be booked in the same order, and a multi-stop itinerary can be quoted on request.
