Annemasse
Annemasse is about 29 km from Geneva Airport, roughly 31 minutes by road, just across the border in France on the eastern side of Geneva. The cross-border Léman Express links Geneva Cornavin with Annemasse, so the train works well with one change, while a private transfer with AirportsTransfers.ch is the easier option for families, heavy luggage, onward trips into Haute-Savoie and flights at awkward hours.

Annemasse and its role in the region
Annemasse is the largest town on the French side of the Geneva conurbation, in Haute-Savoie, directly adjoining the Geneva suburbs of Thônex and Chêne-Bourg. It is a busy residential and commercial centre and home to many cross-border workers. Above all, it is a transport hub: its station is the meeting point of railway lines towards Évian and Thonon on the shore of Lake Geneva, towards Annecy, and towards La Roche-sur-Foron and the Arve valley leading to Saint-Gervais and Chamonix. For many travellers, Annemasse is a stepping stone to somewhere else in the Alps.
The Léman Express option
The Léman Express, a cross-border regional rail network, runs through Geneva in a tunnel and links Cornavin with Annemasse and beyond. From the airport, you take a train to Cornavin, then the Léman Express to Annemasse: one change, frequent services during the day and a short ride on each leg. Arriving passengers can usually collect a free public transport ticket in the baggage reclaim area for travel within the Geneva zone, but the journey into France may need a separate ticket, so check before travelling.
For a visitor with a single case heading to an address near Annemasse station, this is a quick, reliable and inexpensive route. It is also the natural choice if you are continuing by train to Évian, Annecy or the Arve valley.
By road, to the door
The airport is on the north-west side of Geneva and Annemasse on the south-east, so by road the chauffeur either crosses the city or takes the motorway bypass around the west and south before heading east to the border. Either way, the trip takes about half an hour in normal traffic, and you are dropped at your exact address in Annemasse or in neighbouring towns such as Gaillard, Ambilly, Ville-la-Grand or Étrembières. A Mercedes E-Class takes three passengers and three bags, and a Mercedes V-Class takes up to seven passengers and ten bags. Child seats are provided on request.
The road route has another advantage for first-time visitors: there is no need to know which side of the border your address lies on or which station to get off at. Many streets in the Annemasse area run right up to the boundary with the Geneva suburbs, and a chauffeur who knows the area simply drives to the address you have given, whether it is in France or just across the line in Switzerland.
Onward to the mountains and the lake
Many people heading to Annemasse are actually travelling further: to the ski resorts of the Arve valley and the Portes du Soleil, to the spa towns of Thonon and Évian, or to Annecy. If that is your case, a private transfer can simply continue to the final address, which avoids changing trains at Annemasse with skis and suitcases. Declare skis at booking so a suitable vehicle is assigned; in winter, vehicles run on winter tyres and carry chains when conditions require them. Groups of skiers can travel together in a Mercedes Sprinter minibus, with the fixed price per vehicle shared among them.
Traffic, late flights and early departures
The border crossings between Geneva and Annemasse are busy at commuter peaks, so allow extra time for evening arrivals and morning departures on weekdays. Late at night, rail services thin out and a change at Cornavin can mean waiting on a platform with luggage. Your chauffeur tracks your flight and waits if you are delayed, at no extra cost, and can collect you at home in Annemasse at any hour for an early flight.
For a solo traveller with light luggage arriving during the day, the train via Cornavin is a perfectly good choice. The car is the better fit with children, plenty of luggage, onward mountain trips and unsocial hours.
