Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier is one of the largest ski areas in the Southern Alps, stretching along the Guisane valley from Briançon to Le Monêtier-les-Bains. Skiers come for its long larch-lined runs and sunny climate, families for its villages. A private car is the most practical way to cover this longer trip from Geneva, with no train or bus changes and all your equipment on board.

Chauffeur's tipTell us which village you are staying in, Briançon, Chantemerle, Villeneuve or Le Monêtier: they are spread over several kilometres of the valley.

The route from Geneva Airport

The usual route runs south on the A41 to Chambéry, then up the Maurienne valley on the A43. Your chauffeur then takes the Fréjus Road Tunnel into Italy, follows the road past Oulx and climbs over the Col de Montgenèvre back into France to Briançon. Depending on conditions, the driver may instead use the route via Grenoble and the Col du Lautaret. Either way, the trip takes around two hours fifty and crosses the Swiss–French border at the start.

Arriving in Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier is a chain of villages rather than a single resort: Briançon with its fortified old town, Chantemerle, Villeneuve and Le Monêtier-les-Bains, each with its own lift base. Your driver takes you to the door of your hotel, apartment or chalet in the right village. Le Monêtier is also known for its thermal baths. With AirportsTransfers.ch, your return to Geneva can be booked in the same order.

Practical advice

On a journey of this length, comfort matters: the Mercedes V-Class offers space for up to 7 passengers and 10 bags with skis, while the S-Class First Class sedan suits couples who want extra comfort. On winter Saturdays the Maurienne and the Montgenèvre road can be busy, so an early flight helps. Declare skis and request child seats when booking. Your flight is tracked and waiting time is included if you land late.
