Lélex

Lélex is a village in the Valserine valley, in the Haut-Jura natural park, and one of the bases of the Monts Jura ski area, linked by lift with Crozet on the Pays de Gex side. Families appreciate its calm, its forests and its proximity to Geneva. A private car is by far the easiest way in, as the valley has very limited public transport from the airport.

Chauffeur's tipLélex is reached via the Col de la Faucille in winter; let us know if you would like a quick stop for the view over Lake Geneva on the way.

The route from Geneva Airport

After leaving the airport and crossing into France, your chauffeur drives through the Pays de Gex to Gex, then up the winding road to the Col de la Faucille. From the col the road drops into the Valserine valley, passes Mijoux and follows the river down to Lélex. The journey takes just under an hour in good conditions; snow on the Faucille can add a little time.

Arriving in Lélex

The village is small and peaceful, with chalets set along the valley floor and the gondola rising towards the shared Monts Jura ski area with Crozet. Cross-country skiers and snowshoers have wide forest trails close by, while in summer the Valserine is a lovely area for walking and swimming in the river pools. Your driver takes you right to your door. AirportsTransfers.ch can also organise your return or a transfer to Crozet or Mijoux during your stay.

Practical advice

  • Declare skis and sledges at booking so we send the right vehicle.
  • A Mercedes V-Class van carries up to 7 passengers and 10 bags.
  • Child seats are available on request.
  • Waiting time is included if your flight is delayed, thanks to flight tracking.

Groups heading to a large chalet can book a Sprinter minibus to travel together in a single vehicle. In summer the Faucille road is quicker, and the transfer is a pleasant drive with views over the lake and the Alps.

How long is the drive from Geneva Airport to Lélex?
Allow just under an hour, around 55 minutes, from Geneva Airport to Lélex. Snow on the Col de la Faucille or winter weekend traffic can add some time, which your chauffeur factors in.
Which route does the chauffeur take to Lélex?
From Geneva Airport the chauffeur enters France and crosses the Pays de Gex to Gex, then climbs the winding road to the Col de la Faucille. From the col the road drops past Mijoux and follows the Valserine down to Lélex.
Do I cross a border on the way to Lélex?
Yes. Lélex is in the Ain department of France, and the border is crossed just after leaving Geneva Airport, towards Ferney and the Pays de Gex. Carry a passport or identity card for each passenger.
Do I need snow chains for the Col de la Faucille on the way to Lélex?
The Faucille road is kept open in winter, but snow and ice are common near the col and chains or winter equipment may be required. Our vehicles are prepared for winter driving, and the chauffeur adapts the timing.
When is traffic heaviest on the way to Lélex?
Weekday commuter traffic between Geneva, Ferney and Gex is the main slowdown. In winter, weekend mornings bring skiers heading up to the Faucille and the Monts Jura, so allow a little extra time.

Is there an alternative route to Lélex if the Faucille is snowy?
In difficult conditions the chauffeur can reach Lélex from the south, via Bellegarde-sur-Valserine and up the Valserine valley. This route is longer, so it is used only when it makes the journey safer or more reliable.
How long does the Lélex transfer take on a winter Saturday?
On busy winter Saturdays the drive to Lélex can take longer than the usual 55 minutes, mainly because of traffic through Gex and snow on the Faucille. An early-afternoon arrival usually makes the climb easier.
