Argentière

Argentière is the mountaineers' village at the upper end of the Chamonix valley, at the foot of the Grands Montets and its glacier. Skiers and climbers who choose it want quick access to steep terrain and a quieter base than Chamonix town; a private car from Geneva carries their gear straight to the door without changing buses in the valley.

Chauffeur's tipDriving through Chamonix at peak times can be slow; your chauffeur may use the bypass road to keep moving, so do not worry if you skip the town centre.

The route from Geneva Airport to Argentière

Your chauffeur crosses the border into France and takes the A40 Autoroute Blanche along the Arve valley to Le Fayet, then climbs the dual carriageway into the Chamonix valley. After passing Les Houches and skirting Chamonix, the road continues up the valley through Les Praz and Les Tines to Argentière. The final section is a normal valley road that can be busy on winter weekends.

Arriving in Argentière

The village is compact, with the Grands Montets lifts at Lognan just outside it and the road continuing towards Le Tour and the Col des Montets. Your driver drops you at the door of your chalet, hotel or apartment, or at the nearest accessible point if a lane is too narrow or snowed in. Argentière is also a good base for Vallorcine and the Balme area at the top of the valley.

Practical advice for your transfer

Declare skis, splitboards or climbing equipment when booking, as bulky gear decides which vehicle we send: the Mercedes V-Class van takes seven passengers with ten bags and skis. Child seats are available on request. For departures, remember that Saturday traffic between Chamonix and the motorway can be heavy. AirportsTransfers.ch lets you book the return at the same time, and your chauffeur will confirm a pick-up time that leaves a comfortable margin for check-in at Geneva.
