Les Diablerets
Les Diablerets is about 140 km from Geneva Airport, roughly 1 hour 50 minutes by road via the Lake Geneva motorway, Aigle and the Ormonts valley. The trip stays entirely in Switzerland and ends beneath the dramatic cliffs of the Diablerets massif; AirportsTransfers.ch can bring you there directly, with your skis, from the moment you land.
- Distance from GVA: about 140 km
- Drive time: around 1 h 50 min
- Border crossing: none
- Best for: mixed-ability groups, glacier skiing and a traditional chalet atmosphere
- Getting there: A1 and A9 motorways to Aigle, then the valley road via Le Sépey
The drive from Geneva Airport
The route starts on the A1 towards Lausanne and continues on the A9 along the lake and through the Rhône valley to the Aigle exit. From Aigle, a mountain road climbs through the Ormonts valley, passing the village of Le Sépey, and follows the Grande Eau river to Les Diablerets, which sits at the head of the valley in a wide basin below the massif.
The road from Aigle has bends and can carry snow in midwinter, but it is a main route and well cleared. Beyond the village, the road towards the Col du Pillon leads to the base station of Glacier 3000. Your chauffeur can drop you at your chalet or, on request, at the lift stations.
The ski area: village slopes, Villars link and the glacier
Les Diablerets offers three distinct types of skiing. The village's own slopes provide mainly intermediate terrain, and the Meilleret sector links with the Villars-Gryon area, creating a larger network with plenty of blue and red runs through forest and open pasture. This combined area suits families and mixed groups who want variety without the size of the mega-resorts.
The highlight for many visitors is Glacier 3000, reached by cable car from the Col du Pillon. The glacier offers high-altitude snow, wide open runs and a long descent towards Reusch, along with spectacular views over the Bernese and Valais Alps; the Peak Walk suspension bridge between two summits is a famous attraction in its own right. Off-piste around the glacier is serious terrain with crevasses, so it should only be tackled with a qualified mountain guide. Because Glacier 3000 is reached separately, check which pass covers it before buying.
For a week's stay, many visitors mix the three: a couple of days on the village slopes and the Villars link, one or two days on the glacier when the weather is clear, and perhaps a rest day in the valley. Beginners are well served by the gentle nursery areas near the village, and ski schools operate locally. Non-skiers can use the cable car to Glacier 3000 to enjoy the views, and there are winter walking paths and sledging runs in the valley.
The village and its character
Les Diablerets has kept a traditional look, with dark wooden chalets, a small church and a main street of shops and cafés. It feels more like a mountain village than a resort, and the setting, under towering rock walls, is striking. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, with a mix of Swiss visitors, international families and groups from the many schools in the region.
Accommodation is spread around the basin, from central hotels to chalets on the slopes. Telling us the exact address when you book means your chauffeur can deliver you to the right door, sparing you a walk with luggage on snowy paths.
When to go and practical tips
The village slopes typically operate from December into early spring, while Glacier 3000 often opens earlier in the autumn and can extend the season. January and February offer the most reliable snow at village level. February holidays are the busiest weeks, and weekends attract day skiers from the Lausanne area.
- Saturday traffic: the A9 between Lausanne and Montreux is the main slowdown on winter weekends.
- Snow chains: the valley road can need them after heavy snowfall; your chauffeur carries them.
- Equipment: declare skis and snowboards at booking.
- Weather: the glacier cable car can close in high wind, so keep a plan for the village slopes.
Your return to Geneva Airport
For departure, allow roughly three hours between leaving Les Diablerets and your flight time, and more on a busy Saturday or in snowy conditions. The descent to Aigle is steady, and the motorway to Geneva is usually fluid outside peak periods. Many visitors prefer to book the return transfer at the same time as the outward trip.
