Yverdon-les-Bains
Yverdon-les-Bains is about 86 km from Geneva Airport, a drive of just under an hour on the motorway. Swiss trains serve the town well, sometimes directly from the airport and otherwise with a change at Lausanne, so the train is a strong option for light travellers; a private transfer with AirportsTransfers.ch is more practical for groups, heavy bags, late flights or addresses outside the centre.

Yverdon-les-Bains at a glance
Yverdon-les-Bains is the second town of the canton of Vaud, set at the southern tip of Lake Neuchâtel. It is known for its thermal baths, its castle in the old town, and the Maison d'Ailleurs, a museum devoted to science fiction and utopias. The educator Pestalozzi ran his famous institute in the castle in the early nineteenth century. Today Yverdon is also a business and engineering centre, with a technology park and a university of applied sciences, and it is the gateway to the Jura foothills and the lakeside villages of the Broye and Grandson area.
Visitors include spa guests at the thermal centre, engineers and students heading for the technology park and the school, families visiting the lake beaches in summer, and travellers using Yverdon as a quiet base for exploring the Jura vaudois. Each has slightly different needs on the way from the airport, which is why there is no single right answer.
Swiss rail: efficient and dependable
Trains between the Geneva area and Yverdon are frequent through the day. Depending on the timetable, you may find a direct train from Geneva Airport, or you may change at Lausanne. Either way, Yverdon station is close to the old town and lakeside, and the journey is comfortable and predictable.
If you are travelling alone with a suitcase, landing in the middle of the day and staying in the centre, the train is a very good choice and we would not try to talk you out of it. The comparison changes when one of the following applies.
- You are travelling as a family or group, where a single price per vehicle shares the cost.
- You have heavy or bulky luggage, such as sports equipment, instruments or material for a stand.
- Your destination is outside the centre: a business park, a clinic, a village above the lake or along the Jura foot.
- Your flight lands late in the evening, when you would rather not deal with a change and a final taxi.
Buses and coaches
Within the region, buses link Yverdon with surrounding villages, and coaches occasionally run on the Geneva–Lausanne corridor. However, there is no dedicated airport bus to Yverdon, and with good rail links the bus is rarely the logical choice for arriving travellers.
Private transfer: what it looks like
By road, the route follows the A1 motorway from Geneva towards Lausanne, then continues north on the motorway towards Yverdon, leaving the lake behind and crossing the gentle countryside of the Gros-de-Vaud. Your chauffeur takes you directly to your hotel, the thermal centre, your office or a private home. Business visitors often appreciate being able to make calls or prepare a meeting on the way, and teams can travel together in one vehicle.
The fleet covers different needs: a Business Sedan for one to three passengers with standard luggage, a First Class Sedan for those who want additional comfort, a Mercedes V-Class van for up to seven passengers and ten bags, and a Sprinter minibus for larger groups. A chauffeur by the hour, with a minimum of two hours, can be booked for days with several appointments in northern Vaud.
Timing and traffic
The motorway between Geneva and Lausanne is busy at commuter peaks on weekdays, which can lengthen the drive; beyond Lausanne, traffic towards Yverdon usually flows more freely. Trains are unaffected by road congestion, which is a point in their favour at rush hour. For a departing flight, booking a transfer means the pick-up time is set with traffic in mind, and you avoid a tight connection at Lausanne with your luggage.
A useful compromise for longer stays is to travel to Yverdon by car on arrival day, when you are carrying the most luggage and may be tired from the flight, and then rely on the train for day trips and the return if your schedule and bags allow. Swiss trains are punctual and comfortable, so mixing both is entirely reasonable.
