Rolle
Rolle is about 35 km from Geneva Airport, roughly 23 minutes by motorway along the north shore of Lake Geneva, halfway towards Lausanne. Regional trains stop in Rolle and work well for light travellers, while a private transfer with AirportsTransfers.ch is the easier choice for families, heavy luggage and the many homes and estates set among the vineyards above the town.

Rolle and La Côte
Rolle is a small lakeside town in the canton of Vaud, at the heart of the La Côte wine region that stretches between Nyon and Morges. Its long main street runs parallel to the lake, and its lakeside castle with round towers stands right on the water, beside a promenade and a small island. Behind the town, vineyards climb towards villages such as Mont-sur-Rolle, with views across the lake to the French Alps. The area is home to several international schools and to many families who work in Geneva or Lausanne, and it attracts visitors for wine tasting, sailing and quiet lakeside stays.
The train option
Rolle station is on the main railway along the north shore of the lake. From Geneva Airport, some regional services run straight through, and on other connections you change at Geneva Cornavin or another stop on the line; either way, the trip is straightforward and trains are regular during the day. If you are staying in the town centre, a short walk from the station, and arriving with a single case, the train is a sensible, economical way to travel.
The station sits in the lower part of town, though, and many addresses around Rolle are up in the vineyards or in neighbouring villages that the train does not reach. From there you would need a bus or a taxi for the last stretch.
Luggage is the other factor. Regional trains along the lake are comfortable but busy at commuter times, and the change at Cornavin, if your connection needs one, involves moving between platforms with bags. That is easy with a rucksack and much less so with two large suitcases, a pushchair and tired children after a long-haul flight.
By car along the motorway
The motorway from Geneva to Lausanne runs just above the lake, which is why a 35 km journey takes only about 23 minutes in normal traffic. Your chauffeur leaves the motorway at the Rolle exit and drives straight to your door, whether that is a house among the vines, a boarding school campus or a hotel by the water. There is no change of trains, no walk from the station and no wait for a connecting bus.
A Mercedes E-Class carries three passengers and three bags; a Mercedes V-Class carries up to seven passengers and ten bags, which suits families arriving for a term or a holiday. Child seats are provided on request.
Students, families and term-time travel
The international schools around Rolle mean regular arrivals of pupils and parents at the start and end of each term, often with trunks, sports equipment and musical instruments. A private transfer handles that kind of load easily, and a chauffeur meeting a younger traveller in arrivals with a name sign and driving them directly to the campus is reassuring for parents. Groups travelling together can use a Mercedes Sprinter minibus, and the fixed price per vehicle is shared among everyone.
Visitors coming for the wine are another group who often prefer a car. A chauffeur by the hour, with a minimum of two hours, can take you from the airport to a few estates in La Côte and then on to your hotel, so nobody has to drive after a tasting. The same service is useful for business visitors with meetings in Rolle, Nyon and Lausanne on the same day.
Rush hour, late flights and early starts
The motorway between Geneva and Lausanne is busy at peak commuting times, so allow extra time if you land in the early evening or need to reach the airport for a morning flight on a weekday. For arrivals late at night, trains along the lake become less frequent, and a car avoids waiting on a platform. With flight tracking, a delayed landing simply moves the pick-up time, and waiting is included.
For a solo traveller with light luggage heading to central Rolle during the day, the train is hard to fault. Book a car if your destination is up in the vineyards, if you have children or several bags, or if your flight falls outside normal hours.
