Divonne-les-Bains
Divonne-les-Bains is about 20 km from Geneva Airport, roughly 22 minutes by road, just across the border in France at the foot of the Jura. The town has no railway station, so public transport usually means a train along the lake and a bus inland, while a private transfer with AirportsTransfers.ch drives you directly to your hotel, house or the lakeside in a single trip.

A spa town between the Jura and the lake
Divonne-les-Bains lies in the Pays de Gex, on the French side of the border north of Geneva and inland from Nyon. It made its name as a spa town in the nineteenth century, thanks to its spring water, and it still has a resort atmosphere, with a small artificial lake for walks and water sports, parks, a golf course, a casino and a racecourse. The Jura rises directly behind the town, offering hiking in summer and cross-country skiing in winter. Many people working in Geneva and Vaud live here, and it is a popular weekend and short-break destination.
Public transport: no direct rail link
There is no train station in Divonne. The usual public transport route is the train from Geneva Airport along the lake towards Nyon, sometimes with a change at Cornavin, then a bus inland across the border to Divonne. During the day this works for a light traveller with time to spare. In the evening and at weekends, buses run less often, and with suitcases, golf bags or children the combination of train, station transfer and bus becomes a real effort for a journey that takes just over twenty minutes by car.
It is also worth remembering that the bus crosses an international border, so tickets valid in the Geneva zone may not cover the whole journey, and services on the French side follow their own timetables. None of this is difficult for a regular commuter, but for a first-time visitor arriving after a flight it adds a layer of planning that a car removes completely.
Driving directly from the airport
By road the route heads north from the airport along the edge of the Pays de Gex, crossing the border into France and continuing to Divonne. It is short, direct and avoids any detour via the lakeside towns. Your chauffeur takes you to the exact address, whether that is a hotel by the lake, a rented villa on the hillside or a home in one of the neighbouring villages such as Grilly or Vesancy.
A Mercedes E-Class suits up to three passengers with three bags, and a Mercedes V-Class carries up to seven passengers and ten bags, with room for golf bags or skis. For couples arriving for a relaxing weekend, a Mercedes S-Class First Class sedan offers a quiet ride after the flight. Child seats are available on request.
Weekends, golf trips and groups
Divonne draws golf groups, spa weekenders and wedding guests, and these are the travellers who gain most from a car. A group of golfers with clubs, or a family with luggage for a week, can be collected together and arrive together, with the fixed price per vehicle shared among everyone. For larger parties a Mercedes Sprinter minibus moves the whole group in one go. Business visitors staying in Divonne while attending meetings in Geneva can also book a chauffeur by the hour, with a minimum of two hours.
Wedding parties are a good example. Guests often arrive on different flights over a day or two, and a host can book separate transfers for each arrival, each with its own name sign, so everyone reaches the venue or hotel without needing directions. The same approach works for company retreats and seminars held in the town.
Late arrivals and early departures
Because the public transport route needs a bus connection, very late or very early flights are where the car makes the biggest difference. With flight tracking, your chauffeur knows when you have actually landed, and waits if you are delayed. For an early departure, you can be collected at your door and be at the airport in a little over twenty minutes, which is far simpler than chaining a bus and a train before dawn.
If you know the area, travel light and arrive in the middle of a weekday, the train-and-bus route is economical and reliable. For most visitors arriving with luggage, however, the direct drive is the more natural way to reach a town that the railway never served.
