Cernobbio (Lake Como)
Cernobbio is 357 km from Geneva Airport, about four hours by road, on the western shore of Lake Como just a few minutes beyond the city of Como. Trains do not reach the village, so most visitors finish their trip by car anyway; with AirportsTransfers.ch you can make the whole journey in one vehicle, from the arrivals hall to the door of your villa or hotel.

The journey from Geneva Airport
The drive leaves the Lake Geneva basin, crosses the Alps and enters Lombardy before following the lake road north out of Como. Depending on season and traffic, your chauffeur will use either the Simplon route through the Valais or one of the tunnels towards the Aosta Valley. The final stretch is short but narrow: the old lakeside road, the Via Regina, winds past gates and garden walls, and it is easier to arrive with someone who knows where the private entrances and drop-off points are.
For rail travellers, the usual approach is a train to Milan or Ticino, then on to Como, then a taxi or bus to Cernobbio. It works, but with three or four segments the risk of a missed connection grows, especially if your flight into Geneva lands late. A private car keeps the arrival simple and lets you rest on the way.
A village of villas and conferences
Cernobbio grew around the grand residences that aristocratic and industrial families built along this stretch of shore from the sixteenth century onwards. Several of them now serve as event venues, hotels or private homes, and their landscaped gardens descend to the water. This heritage explains why the village regularly hosts international conferences, economic forums and trade events: there are large historic properties with meeting rooms, parkland and space for security, yet the setting remains intimate compared with a city.
If you are travelling for a meeting, expect road access around the venues to be organised in advance, with guest lists and set drop-off times. Telling us the venue and any arrival instructions at booking means your chauffeur can plan accordingly. Companies can request invoices, and a chauffeur by the hour is practical when delegates need to move between hotels, venues and dinners over an evening.
Things to do in and around Cernobbio
The village centre is small: a lakeside square with a pier, cafes, and lanes climbing towards older houses. From the landing stage, ferries and hydrofoils run north to Moltrasio, Tremezzo, Bellagio and beyond, and south to Como in a few minutes. Walkers can follow old mule tracks into the hills; the route towards Monte Bisbino, close to the Swiss border, offers wide views over the lake and the Lombard plain on clear days.
Back on the shore, there are lidos and lakeside paths for a swim or an evening stroll. Como itself, with its cathedral, silk heritage and funicular up to Brunate, is just next door, and Lugano in Ticino is a short drive away for a change of country. Milan is close enough for a day of shopping or a visit to the cathedral and the galleries.
When to go and practical advice
From spring to early autumn the gardens are at their fullest and boats run frequently. July and August are warm and lively, with weddings and events filling weekends, so book transfers early if your dates coincide with a large conference. Winter is calm and atmospheric, though some lakeside businesses reduce their activity and ferry services are less frequent.
Parking along the shore is limited, which is one reason guests often travel without a rental car and rely on boats, taxis or a chauffeur for outings. If you are staying in a villa higher up the hillside, check whether the access lane suits a larger van; we can advise on the right vehicle when you book.
